Horror Escape Rooms in Hong Kong: The Scare Ranking (2026 Halloween Guide)

English-players-finishing-Zodiac-Killer

Every year around September the same question starts flooding our inbox and Instagram: which room is the scariest? So instead of answering one message at a time, here is the official ranking, written by our Game Masters, the people who watch every scream from the control room.

One thing before the countdown: none of our rooms use live actors, and nobody touches you. The fear comes from the set, the sound and the story. As you are about to see, that is more than enough.

The top three, explained

1. Zodiac Killer — 5/5

Hong Kong’s scariest escape room, and we do not say that lightly. You are inside the lair of a serial killer modelled on the infamous Zodiac, he is coming back, and the room knows exactly when to let you hear about it. Groups that swagger in quoting horror films go quiet around the ten minute mark. Escaping feels like surviving, which is precisely the point.

2. The Other Side — 4.5/5

A portal to a parallel universe has opened and things are coming through. If Zodiac Killer is a slasher film, The Other Side is Stranger Things: dread, wrongness, and a world that looks almost like ours. Fans of supernatural horror usually rate this one their favourite, and it is the room we recommend when a group cannot decide which kind of scared they want to be.

3. Zombie Lab — 3/5

The gateway horror room. Creepy set, outbreak story, real tension, but the puzzles take over fast and the fear turns into adrenaline. We wrote a full Zombie Lab survival guide if your group is weighing it up.

For the friend who scares easily

Every horror booking has one member who got outvoted. Our advice: put them in charge of puzzles, keep them in the middle of the group, and remind them that nothing touches anyone. If the vote is truly split, ranks four to eight exist for a reason, and Tesla’s Mystery delivers proper suspense with zero horror. There is no wrong door on this list, only wrong expectations.

Booking for Halloween

October is horror season and our two scariest rooms feel it first: Friday to Sunday evening slots for Zodiac Killer and The Other Side go earliest, so book one to two weeks ahead for a Halloween weekend game. Weekday evenings stay easier. Games run from $240 per person, every room takes 2 to 8 players, and on Friday to Sunday the last session starts at 21:30, which is exactly the right hour to walk out of a serial killer’s lair into the Kwun Tong night.

Think your group can take the top of the table? Book your room and find out. We will be watching from the control room.

Frequently asked questions

Which escape room in Hong Kong is the scariest?

Zodiac Killer at Fox in a Box, by the unanimous verdict of the people who watch every game from the control room. A serial killer’s lair, near darkness, and a story that keeps tightening for the full 60 minutes. The Other Side runs it close with a different flavour of horror.

Are there live actors in the horror rooms?

No. None of our rooms use live actors and nobody ever touches you. Every scare comes from the set, the sound design and the story, which honestly makes it worse, because there is no costumed teenager to laugh at. Just the room, the dark, and your imagination doing overtime.

Can two people play the horror rooms?

Yes, every room takes teams of 2 to 8, and couples book Zodiac Killer precisely because someone will need their hand held. A two player game is $260 per person. See our escape rooms for two guide for the full date night plan.

Are the horror rooms okay for kids?

We do not recommend Zodiac Killer or The Other Side for young children; those two are built to frighten adults. Horror loving teens handle them fine. For kids, four of our rooms are properly kid friendly, and Zombie Lab sits in between. Not sure? Call us and describe your group, and we will be honest.
